Easy 6 Steps to Start a Blog
This article will cover the 6 steps below. And as mentioned, all step-by-step. However, the journey to make money blogging can only begin after you’ve done the 6 steps below.
- How to find a profitable niche (topic) to blog?
- Find a cheap, but powerful hosting company.
- Choose a domain name.
- Install WordPress: the world most used blogging platform.
- Pick an SEO friendly blog design.
- Preparation towards attracting your first 1,000 visitors.
So, I have to admit, it’s quite complicated there, but I’ll show you everything, all step-by-step.
Step 1. How to find a profitable niche (topic) to blog?
First, you want to get into the most competitive niche. That’s right. Find a niche that has a high volume of people in there and products so that you can sell more an affiliate. If you’re in a niche where you have no products or people that searching for products to buy then it’s super, super hard to make sales.
An affiliate is when you sell other people products to receive a commission.
There are 3 most competitive niches on the internet:
- Internet Marketing. When comes to marketing, 1 strategy doesn’t last forever, but all marketing strategies will change around. People will always be looking for a better way to capture leads or getting leads with the least cost. A lot of affiliate products available here.
- Health niche (weight loss). When you’re in the public or business, you can see many people are not willing to take care of their health. Therefore, you can blog about a health topic. However, not as many products available here, eBooks is the most.
- Personal Development. Not many products in this niche for you to sell as an affiliate. However, it’s possible to have a mix between your main topic. An example, if you’re in a health niche (weight loss), you could sometimes publish content on personal development. Why? If people don’t have the right mindset or personality, it’s hard for them to do anything.
Overall, I hope you get the idea. Whatever niche you pick, focus on building an email list first, then as your email list grows to 5,000 or 10,000 subscribers or more and have at least 10% open rates, then finally to focus on sending traffic and making sales.
They sound complicated? Don’t worry, get started with a blog first, then learn more from there.
Step 2. Find a Cheap, but powerful Hosting Company
Disclosure: As you’re reading this blog, it is hosted by Hostgator. I am a customer and an affiliate to Hostgator and without any further fee but you’ll also receive an additional 35% to 60% off as you become a Hostgator customer.
What is a host?
A hosting company makes your blog available to the internet, and available for the entire world to stumble upon your blog. All content, images, files will be hosted by your hosting company.
A powerful hosting company is important, it’ll faster your blog loading times and people can’t wait for a page to load, otherwise they’ll leave before they’re even read your blog.
Let’s head over by clicking here to go to Hostgator, a company hosted over 9 million sites and you’ll see this
By the way, the picture above is taken from Hostgator which can be varied from time to time because of different promotion periods. However, the signing-up process is the same.
Select your Plan by Clicking “Sign Up Now!”
Hatchling plan is great for a beginner, everything it’s available. The different to the Baby plan is you can only use 1 domain name on the Hatchling, and unlimited domain on the Baby plan.
An example DomainName.com is your primary domain name, you can only use 1 domain with a Hatchling plan which means, only 1 blog is allowed. But you can use unlimited domain names with a Baby plan, that means you can manage as many blogs as you like.
As a beginner, you only need 1 domain name and focus on getting 1 thing done.
Step 3. Choose a Domain Name
Domain name is the link in the address bar, an example of BloggingPaths.com. Pick a domain name is important, make sure it’s short, clear to identify and avoid dashes or number.
Use Domize to search for an available domain name,
After you select your plan, you’ll see a form begin from
Enter an available domain name in the field. Or pick ‘already own this domain’ if you’ve sign-up a domain elsewhere, nothing will be effected but just to let Hostgator knows beforehand.
Tips on choosing a domain name
- Have a short, clear to identify domain name,
- .com seems to be the most popular, then .net, .org, .co.
- Avoid dashes and numbers.
- Have a domain name with your name for a good start.

I’ve also come across successful blogs with dashes and numbers, but if there are 10 successful blogs, only 1 or 2 blogs that use them.
Select a Hosting Plan
At Package Type, you can pick any package type you like, but it’s best to go with basic Hatchling. The longer your billing cycle, the higher the discount will be. Hostgator bills one, two, or three years at a time. It works out to a reasonable monthly amount. The best thing about Hostgator is, even when you renew an expired plan, you’ll always get at least 20% discount.
Enter Your Billing Info
Please consider making your payment with your credit card. Otherwise, you’ll need to go through a verification process if using Paypal as your payment such as your passport or driver license – it took me 2 days to get started.
Should You Add Additional Services?
Personally, I don’t recommend it at all, however, it’s optional. The last option is only available with a Baby plan and Google loves it and Google will give your blog a ranking boost.
My opinion on these 4 options,
- Protect Your Site from Hackers: I mean why shouldn’t they consider the bigger site?
- Get Your Professional Email: This option is available for every Hosting plan.
- Backup Your Hardwork: With WordPress, you can export/import with a click of a button.
- Assure Safety to Your Visitors: Google loves it and Google will give your blog a ranking boost.
Enter a Coupon Code
Hostgator will always automatically give their customers a maximum discount for best customer satisfaction, minimum from 35% to 60% discount.
Review Your Order Details
As you can see, it works out to a 33.52% discount. The total you’ll pay today is for depends on 12 months, 24 months, or 36 months you’re going to pick.
Now, finalize your billing information by clicking on the check box terms and condition, and click Checkout Now!
Check Your Email for Login Info
After completing your purchase, you’ll receive a welcome email from Hostgator which will be included your login information.
Login to Your Hostgator cPanel
You won’t see the login button when you go back to Hostgator and It locates at your welcome email. You will find your cPanel login information, and a separate login information to your Customer Portal.
Did You Register a Domain Name from Elsewhere?
Connect your domain name company and your Hosting company by copying the host nameserver and paste it to your domain name company.

Step 6. Preparation for Attracting Your First 1,000 Visitors.
This step is simple by just promoting via blog commenting, then you can get 1,000 visitors in no time. But here’s the thing, you need to prepare your brand new blog for a great opening, with these 4 elements.
About Page: Your about page is important. People want to know all about your business and the about page is the exact place, such as they want to know all your business, finding the exact place for business opportunity, and confirmation on if the business is legit.
Contact Page: Once they notice your business and seeing a business opportunity, this is where people can contact the owner.
First blog post: Your first blog post could be a showcase of your work, and is also a chance to encourage people to read your about page. Normally, people would be interested in your work first, before they want to know the owner.
Subscribe Box: This could be a good chance for harvesting subscribers before they leave empty handed. Not necessarily everyone would give you their email address, but if your content is valuable, it is worthy of becoming a subscriber to your blog.
Promote to Attract Your First 1,000 Visitors
People don’t know if our blog is existing if we don’t promote. Instead of waiting for it to go viral by itself, go ahead and promote it, today! When comes to promoting, we need to be consistent and never expect great results without grinding hard every day.
These are 3 ultimate promoting strategies that still work, today:
Blog commenting: Simply, find the same niche blog, and comment on it as often as you can. However, don’t SPAM but we need to write something valuable in exchange for attracting their blog visitors. Read this post “Blog Commenting: 3 Steps, Drive Targeted Traffic to Your Blog”
Guest Blogging: Quite a challenging promoting strategy to be featured on other blogs by requesting the blog owner for a guest blogging opportunity. The bigger the blog that you can feature on, the better.
Advertising: This is an obvious one, but the first struggling problem is capital, the second struggling problem is if you have the ability to use advertising the right way without banging the money.
Final note: it’s important not to expect great results by doing something that you THINK you worked hard enough.
